Beards/mustaches, due to various traumas, burns, accidents and various skin problems, are lost and do not grow out regularly. The only definitive and permanent treatment method for these problems is beard/mustache transplantation.

How is beard/mustache transplantation done?

Beard/mustache transplantation is performed under local anesthesia with the FUE method, as in hair transplantation. Grafts are extracted from the donor area between the ears using specially designed inserts using the Micro FUE method, with mostly single grafts.

The beard/mustache line drawing is done with much care, and the shape is decided upon with the patient. In the implantation area, the channels to be implanted are opened in the same direction of the existing beard/mustache and with angles of 10–20 degrees in order to guarantee a natural look. Using micro forceps, the grafts are placed into the opened channels. The patient is discharged right after the operation.

A liquid diet is recommended on the day of operation, as well as not to talk unless it’s necessary and not to make facial gestures. On the next day, the patient can return to his/her work and social life. Crusting will occur in the implantation area for 10 days. After 10 days of washing, there will be no more crusting. For 20 days, sauna, solarium, hammam, sunbathing, swimming and sports should be avoided.

The transplanted beard/mustache hairs will experience shock loss after 20–25 days and will start to come out again after 3 months. By the 12th month, the beard/mustache growth is completed, and it gets into its final shape. If more density is desired, a second session can be planned.
